Real Work in Ashton
Our most recent project in the town was a full kitchen transformation. It is worth mentioning on a page about bedrooms because of what sits behind it. That project involved stripping out the old room, then handling the electrics, the plumbing and the plastering before a single unit went in, all with our own team rather than a chain of subcontractors. A fitted bedroom runs the same way, with the same designer, the same fitters and the same CAD process. The room changes. The standard does not.
What a Fitted Bedroom Project Involves
The Free Home Measure
We come to you. Measuring a bedroom properly means recording more than length and width, because it is the skirting depth, the ceiling height, the position of the sockets and the exact angle of a sloped ceiling that decide what will physically fit. We also ask what you are storing, since a wardrobe for two people with a lot of hanging clothes is a very different design to one built around shelving and drawers.
The 3D CAD Design
From those measurements we produce a 3D design of your room. You get to see the layout, the door style, the internal fittings and the finish before you commit to anything, and you can change your mind as many times as you like at this stage. It costs nothing to move a wardrobe on a screen and a great deal to move one after it has been fitted.
Rip-Out and Preparation
Old furniture comes out and the room is made ready. That often means electrical work for new sockets or lighting, sometimes a bit of plastering where old fittings have left their mark. Doing this properly is what stops a new wardrobe from sitting slightly proud of a wall that was never square in the first place.
Installation and Finishing
The fitting itself is usually the quickest part. Units are scribed to the walls, doors are hung and aligned, handles go on, and the room is cleaned before we leave. Most single-room fitted bedrooms are done within a few days once the design is signed off, though the exact timing depends on the work involved and the lead time on your chosen doors.
Potentially Awkward Spaces in Ashton Homes
Chimney Breasts and Alcoves
The classic problem in an older Ashton property. A freestanding wardrobe cannot sit flush against a chimney breast, so you end up with two dead alcoves and a wardrobe stuck at an angle. Fitted units fill both alcoves completely, run across the front of the breast if you want a continuous wall of storage, and turn the most awkward wall in the room into the most useful one.
Eaves and Sloped Ceilings
Loft conversions and older properties with dormer roofs leave a wedge of space that no shop-bought furniture will ever fit. Made-to-measure units follow the slope, with full-height hanging where the ceiling is tallest and drawers, shoe storage or pull-out rails tucked into the low section that would otherwise be wasted.
Box Rooms
In a small third bedroom, sliding doors are usually the answer. They need no clearance in front, so you keep the floor space that hinged doors would swallow. Combine them with a full-height run and mirrored panels and a box room can hold as much as a wardrobe in a room twice the size, while feeling considerably less closed in.

Two recent projects give a good sense of what tends to get picked. A fitted bedroom we completed in Orrell, a few minutes from Ashton, used our Esquire Light Grey doors with knurled brass handles. It is a quiet, warm combination, and the brass stops a soft grey scheme from feeling flat.
Elsewhere in Wigan, a panelled wardrobe bedroom took a different route: sliding panelled doors, pendant lights over the bedside cabinets and mirrored panels behind them to bounce light around the room and frame the client’s headboard.
